What NOT to include in your CV?

After going through our previous two blogs about (1) what are the top three sections to focus on when writing your CV and (2) whether you should use color or not, we are up to the third blog so that we can summarize the subject of writing the perfect CV. The last blog in this section is focused on the things, information, that you should avoid when writing your CV. Hence, not everything should be mentioned in your resume. So, in the following list we will go through the top 5 things not to include in your CV.

1. Irrelevant job experience

Having a truly wonderful time from your previous job positions is a nice memory to cherish. However, if it doesnโ€™t have anything in common with the position you are applying for, there is no need to include it when writing your CV. Instead, focus on the jobs that have direct influence on the one that you are applying for.

2. Achievements that are not exactly achievements

Being a second school captain in high school is not an achievement that should be mentioned in your CV. Community service as is volunteering is something that should be mentioned, and can quite often help you make the top on the list of candidates, of course if you have the necessary qualifications.

3. Physical description

You should never include a detailed description of your looks or a full body image. It is very unprofessional. It can be perceived as a charade that can only put you in an adverse position with the other candidates.

4. Private information

Regardless if it is about you religious beliefs or your sexual orientation, this is information that should also never be included in your resume. It is irrelevant for the job position and it is best if you keep it for yourself.

5. Contact information what will raise flags

Most of us have some funny, embarrassing and/or inappropriate email address created back in the days. If that is the case, you always have the time to create a new, more professional one. Make sure that you avoid putting those types of contact information in your CV. This will bring only negative attention towards your application.
