Even if you have the necessary experience and skills, sometimes it isn’t enough. There are other things that you should focus on as well, things that are crucial for success when writing your CV. Here is a list of the top three sections to focus on when writing your CV.
1. Basic information and contact details section
Essentially, the first information that an interviewer / recruiter sees when they check the CV is the basic information provided at the top. This information should always include your name, personal number and email address. Additionally you can write the date of your birth, gender, nationality, or even put a link to your profile on some of the professional networks available online.
However, be careful not to leave out some of the basic data. It shows a lot about your character and you as a person.
2. Intro personal statement
The first impression is the most important or as they say “there is no second chance for first impression”. So, the intro personal statement is what can make or break your chances of getting the job. Always when there is a job post, recruiters receive a lot of CV and that is why you need to impress them when they start reading. In order to grab and keep their attention, you need to hook them with a striking intro statement at the very beginning of your CV.
Do the research about the job opening and the company that you are applying to, and tell them why it is you who should be selected.
3. Work experience and core skills
Next and final in the list of top three sections to focus on when writing your CV is the work experience section. After reading the personal statement, the recruiters want to know more about the qualifications and experience of the candidate. That is the moment when they move to this section. Here, in case you just finished studying, you can go into details about your school projects, subjects studied and/or voluntary work. However, If you have years of experience behind you, then you should start with the most recent one, and move down in reverse chronological order.
Make sure that you mention all of the skills that you have acquired with your previous engagement, and how they are relevant to the job you are applying for.
